The Nashville Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) will hold its July 30 noon luncheon program at the Waller Lansden Conference Center, 511 Union Street, 27th Floor, with the focus on mental health. Featured guest speakers are TN Commissioner of Mental Health and Dev. Disabilities Virginia Trotter Betts and Meharry Medical College Exec. Vice President Dr. Angela L. Walker Franklin.
Both women have roots in the medical community.
Commissioner Betts is a registered nurse with degrees in nursing from UT College of Nursing and Vanderbilt School of Nursing, and holds a law degree from the Nashville School of Law. She is on leave from her position as Director for Health Policy and Professor of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC), Memphis.
Prior to her university appointment, Commissioner Betts served as Sr. Advisor on Nursing and Policy to the Secretary and Asst. Secretary of Health of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The Commissioner’s publications are numerous, and her presentations and consultations have been widely acclaimed, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Franklin holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Emory University, and completed a year-long clinical internship at Grady Memorial Hospital.
A former American Council on Education Fellow for 2001-2002, Dr. Franklin was a 2004 protégé of the Millennium Leadership Institute.
Before her move to Meharry, Dr. Franklin served 20 years at Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta.
In addition to her executive vice president duties at Meharry, Dr. Franklin holds administrative
responsibility for Human Resources, IT, Academic Support, Faculty Affairs and Development, Enrollment Management, Student Services, Institutional Research, Counseling Services, the Library and Administrative Services.

Judge Betty Adams Green is Featured Speaker at May
NWPC Luncheon
The Nashville Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) has scheduled its next luncheon, on May 29, with Judge Betty Adams Green, speaking on "Juvenile Crime—Why Should I Be Concerned?"
Judge Green, Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge since her election in 1998, is an expert in the juvenile court system. A former Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Youth Development, she has held positions including Assistant District Attorney for the Metropolitan-Davidson County, and Executive Director for the Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. -more
NWPC Honors Dixie Taylor-Huff at 8th Annual Spring Revue March 17
The Nashville Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) will hold its 8th Annual Spring Revue honoring past NWPC president Dixie Taylor-Huff on March 17, at the Doubletree Hotel, 315 Fourth Ave. North, in downtown Nashville.
Ms. Huff is a member on the Board of Directors and the Government Relations Committee for the Tennessee Health Care Association (THCA), where she served as president, in 1985-1986; Nashville District President in 1980; and as chairman of THCA’s Political Action Committee. - more

Mayor Dean Featured Speaker at Feb. 5 Nashville Women’s Political Caucus Meeting
Nashville Metropolitan and Davidson Co. Mayor Karl Dean is slated to speak at the Feb. 5 Nashville Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) luncheon.
Mayor Dean, the sixth mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, was elected in a runoff election Sept. 11, 2007, following a general election where he also received the most votes. - more

Nashville Women’s Political Caucus Nominates
Marianne Bouldin for the 2008 ATHENA Award
The Nashville Women’s Political Caucus has nominated Marianne Sartin Bouldin for the ATHENA Award that will be presented during the annual event held on March 27, 2008 at the Parthenon.
Bouldin has spent many years as a professional executive and volunteer advocate for women and medically underserved populations. Since 1993, she has been the principal of Take A Stand Communications, a consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and government relations. Bouldin’s expertise in leadership and management of not-for-profit organizations has allowed her to serve on numerous national political committees and charitable boards. - more
