Nashville Women’s Political Caucus Nominates
Marianne Bouldin for the 2008 ATHENA Award
The Nashville Women’s Political Caucus has nominated Marianne Sartin Bouldin for the ATHENA Award that will be presented during the annual event held on March 27, 2008 at the Parthenon.
Bouldin has spent many years as a professional executive and volunteer advocate for women and medically underserved populations. Since 1993, she has been the principal of Take A Stand Communications, a consulting firm specializing in strategic planning and government relations. Bouldin’s expertise in leadership and management of not-for-profit organizations has allowed her to serve on numerous national political committees and charitable boards.
She is a past President of the Nashville Women’s Political Caucus and was instrumental in launching an ad-hoc committee, "Women's Coalition for Long Term Care" actively championing legislation to address Tennessee's growing need for long term care funding.
As director, communications and patient advocacy, at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, Bouldin co-founded the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition (TBCC). TBCC successfully implemented screening and treatment (for breast and cervical cancer) services for medically underserved women into the Tenn-Care waiver.
In 2005, Bouldin’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. At the completion of the arduous treatment, Bouldin chose to dedicate her professional and volunteer efforts to creating awareness and raising funds for innovative sarcoma research. The Hope Fund for Sarcoma Research is a donor-advised fund coordinated through the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
She serves as a board member and co-chair of board development of the Alcohol and Drug Council of Nashville and as a member of the Tennessee Women’s Forum. Previously, she served as a board member for the Wellness Center in Washington D.C., board member of WIN, member of Nashville Women’s Breakfast Club, and on the advisory committee of the National Museum for Women’s History.
Bouldin studied at Oxford University in England, the Universite de Paris, France and American University in Washington D.C.
